World Book Day

Updated: Mar 13

World Book Day is fast approaching! Celebrated in more than 100 countries, it encourages school students to read for pleasure by “offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own” (World Book Day). This year’s World Book Day date is Thursday 3rd March, and will see children heading to school dressed as their favourite book character to collect the £1 book token and add a book boost to their home libraries.

March 2022 marks the 25th World Book Day in the UK! A quarter of a century of spellbinding stories and beloved books continues on. There are a range of books available to claim with the £1 tokens and ignite a love for reading, no matter what level. It is important to note that World Book Day tokens cannot be used online, so head to your nearest participating bookstore to make your decision.

Dressing up on this day is a huge aspect of promoting reading. It sparks classroom discussions of favourite books and current reads and allows everyone to get involved and be excited. Costume ideas for World Book Day fancy dress can be as simple or as creative as you want, and your outfit can be popular or obscure. It’s all down to you to add the finishing touches of face paint and accessories to really get into the spirit of World Book Day.
